In 2001, Hilton Hotels started the ‘We Care’ initiative – a programme focused on sustainability and environmental benefits. As a result, the AC ProFilm became a part of the ‘We Care’ approach. “Installing these window films gave our programme that extra touch,” says Mr. Ingo Linke, the Facility Manager of the Hilton Hotel Vienna. “We greatly improved the insulation of our building but our cooling systems still consumed too much energy in summer because of the solar heat entering through the windows. Now, thanks to the film – our heating and cooling costs are substantially lower.” The energy savings realised by AC ProFilm go as high as 30% on a yearly basis. We covered 1,020m² of windows and realised annual energy savings of over 230,000 kWh. Tests comparing rooms with and without AC ProFilm, showed temperature differences of up to 10°C during the summer. “Our guests appreciate eco-friendly hotel rooms and thanks to these films, we are now frontrunners in environment protection.” said Linke.

ABN AMRO BANK HQ – AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS

The HQ of ABN Amro, in Amsterdam, is among the top ten of the city’s highest buildings with 24 floors and 105m of height. 45% of the building is covered by windows (double glazed with extra ventilation). In 2012, AC ProFilm was applied on the East, South and West sides of the building (total window surface: 11,387m²). Three years later, it is clear that ABN Amro saves more than 1,435,500 kWh per year (equaling savings of up to 145,000 EUR per year). In addition, there are no more complaints about the entrance of heat during the summer. ABN Amro also noticed the positive effect of thermal insulation in winter, which led to a decision to apply AC ProFilm on the North side of the building too.

ING SHOPPING CENTER – SINT NIKLAAS, BELGIUM

You don’t want to pay the energy bill of a shopping center! They often consume enormously. Dimming the incoming daylight is not an option, since it comes at a cost of less comfort. AC ProFilm combines high daylight levels with optimal thermal insulation. It turned out to be the perfect solution for ING Shopping Center, Europe’s biggest one floor shopping center (45,000m²).

End of 2007, our films were installed on their windows. The results were centrally monitored and are quite spectacular: energy reduction of 28.7% on heating (gas) and 18.2% on cooling (electricity). The payback period was limited to 1.62 years. Today, eight years later, the savings just continue.

GLAXOSMITHKLINE – MARLY-LE-ROI, FRANCE

GlaxoSmithKline developed innovative programmes with an aim of reducing the ecological footprint of their business and their buildings. In 2008/2009, 6,600m² of AC ProFilm were applied at GSK’s premises in France providing hyper-insulating and highly transparent window films. The project payback period was limited to just 1.6 years. Since their installation,  the AC ProFilm effectively maintains constant temperature levels (avoiding high fluctuations in winter or summer) in both their lobby and their offices.

Thanks to the AC ProFilm, GlaxoSmithKline has enjoyed annual energy savings of 1,946,918 kWh in electricity and 1,828,156 kWh in gas. As a result, GSK received the ‘Green Building Certification’ from the European Commission.

EUROPEAN COMMISSION – BRUSSELS, BELGIUM

You heard of 20-20-20, right? It regards the European commitments against climate change. By 2020, Europe has to reduce its energy consumption by 20%, as well as reduce its CO2 emissions by 20%.

It is safe to say that Europe’s savings start at the DG Environment Building of the European Commission, the very address of the ‘Department Climate Change and Kyoto’ indeed. In 2006, 2,400m² of AC ProFilm were installed. By reducing heat in summer and avoiding heat loss in winter, we reduced the building’s energy consumption by 30%.

AC ProFilm is applied inside the building and allows for high light transparency.

During a validation campaign, held between 28 August and 2 September 2006, the independent engineering agency ‘Attentia’ measured the temperature performances in the building of the European Commission. They noticed a temperature decrease up to 8.1°C, solely thanks to our window films.

It is not much of a surprise that shortly afterwards, the European Parliament installed our films as well.
